Not if the mounting is done properly. Nearly every solar-related leak we are called to comes from hooks fixed into tired battens, or tiles cut badly around the brackets, rather than from the panels themselves. We survey the roof before quoting the array.

Most can, but the covering and the battens have to be sound first. Panels add weight and the mounting hooks fix through to the rafters, so a roof that is near the end of its life should be replaced before an array goes on it rather than after.

The gap between the panels and the tiles is sheltered, warm and almost exactly what a pigeon is looking for. Nesting there blocks airflow under the panels, which reduces output, and the mess fouls the roof and blocks gutters. Mesh bird proofing around the array perimeter stops it without affecting the panels.
